Libra — Tula
| Sanskrit · Symbol | Tula · ♎ |
| Element · Modality | Air · Movable |
| Lord | ♀ Venus (mool trikon) |
| Exaltation | ♄ Saturn at 20° |
| Debilitation | ☉ Sun at 10° |
Tula means scale or balance. Libra is Venus's mool trikon: the sign where Venus's diplomatic, aesthetically aware, and relationally oriented qualities find their purest expression. It is also Saturn's exaltation sign — a pairing that seems surprising given the Venus-Saturn enmity in naisargika relationships, but which makes sense when you consider that Libra's quality of fair, impartial judgment is precisely what Saturn's best nature produces.
The Sun debilitates here at 10° — not because Libra is hostile to the Sun's light, but because the sign's demand for compromise, deference to others, and the weighing of multiple perspectives runs counter to the Sun's natural quality of solar self-certainty.
Planets in Libra become relationship-oriented, balanced, and aesthetically sensitive. Venus here is at its most socially graceful and artistically inclined. Mercury in Libra produces a diplomat's mind — careful, balanced, skilled at seeing multiple sides. Mars in Libra is Venus's sign, which is neutral for Mars, and produces a quality of measured action and strategic negotiation.
Libra as lagna produces a charming, socially graceful personality with a natural sense of aesthetics and fairness. The lagnesh Venus's placement determines much about the constitution and social circumstances. Saturn is a yogakaraka for Libra lagna — ruling the 4th and 5th houses — making Saturn's placement exceptionally important and potentially very beneficial when well-placed. See Venus for Libra's lord, the seventh house for Libra's natural domain, and the signs overview for the movable-air framework. In Jaimini, Libra is a forward sign in Chara Dasha.
